Nature Of The Case
This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.
Facts
Asbury (P) sued under 42 U.S.C. Section 1982 and 42 U.S.C Section 3601 claiming that Brougham (D) refused to rent to her or allow her to inspect or negotiate for the rental of an apartment. The jury verdict went to P for $7,500, and D moved for a new trial, and that was denied, so D appealed. The issue on review was whether there was sufficient evidence to uphold the verdict and punitive damages.
