Facts
D operated a railroad. One of its engines emitted sparks emanating from D’s negligence. Those sparks caused fires which eventually combined and injured P whose property was 4 miles away. P sued for damages and destruction by fire of a mare, a colt, corn, oats, wheat, hay, and outbuildings and fences. P alleged that D was negligent in the operation of its engine. D claimed that the damages to P were too remote. P got the verdict and D appealed.
