Facts
Chaddick (W) and Monopoli (H) were divorced in 1988 in Massachusetts, and W was awarded custody of their two minor children. W then moved to Florida and H moved to Virginia. H was entitled to visitation during July and August, and W sent the children from Florida to Virginia. H then filed a custody petition in Virginia that alleged that W had custody pursuant to a Massachusetts order, and when it came time to return the children to Florida, H could not as United Airlines refused travel without the address of W and W had refused to give H her address or her address even to the police in Charlottesville. Virginia awarded custody to H. W disputed Virginia jurisdiction under UCCJA and FPKPA. She did not succeed. Two years after the Virginia petition, W filed in Florida seeking enforcement of the Massachusetts decree. The petition was dismissed after the Florida judge communicated with the Virginia judge and a determination that Florida did not have jurisdiction under UCCJA. W appealed, and the judgment was affirmed. The Supreme Court of Florida heard the case.
