The Duke of Somerset (P), as lord of the manor of Corbridge, was entitled to an old altarpiece made of silver with Greek inscription to Hercules. The altarpiece was sold by another who had gotten possession of it to Cookson (D). D had notice of the claim by D. D took a bill in equity to compel delivery of the altarpiece in specie undefaced. D demurred to the bill as P's proper remedy at law was in trover or detinue.
