Nature Of The Case
This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.
Facts
Forrer (P) worked for D for 18 years and then due to ill health, left employment in 1963 and commenced to operate a farm. In November of 1964, P was persuaded by D to come back to work as a manager of the hardware department on a part-time basis. During December of 1964, the manager of the store promised P permanent employment as a manager of the hardware division in consideration for giving up his farming operations and coming to work full-time. P accepted and sold his stock of hogs and cattle, rented the barn to a neighbor and placed his acreage into the USDA feed grain program, and on February 1, 1965, started to work full-time. P lost money in taking these actions. P was discharged without cause on June 1, 1965. P sued and the demurred by D was upheld. P appealed.
