Nature Of The Case

This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.

Facts

D hired Ps to work in various campaign roles for the 2020 election. In March 2020, Bloomberg announced he was suspending his presidential campaign. D notified Ps that it was terminating their employment. Ps sued D in Texas state court seeking $42,000 in owed wages and a litany of unquantified damages. D removed the case to federal court, arguing that the number of claims and prior representations of counsel demonstrated each suit exceeded $75,000 in value. After a failed attempt by the Ps to remand the suits, the court granted D summary judgment on all the claims asserted by Ps. Ps appealed, challenging only the district court's subject matter jurisdiction.
