On the day that Thomas (H) was accepted to medical school, he proposed marriage to Diana (W). Six years and two children later the marriage was at an end. W must know ponder her future as the one who helped support the family while H went through medical school and his two years of residency. The issue before the court was what compensation should W get for her contribution to H's increased earning capacity. The trial court awarded W $100,000 lump sum property award payable with interest in ten annual installments along with three years rehabilitative alimony totaling $54,000. H appealed.
