Nature Of The Case
This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.
Facts
Morrison (P) was a contestant on a quiz show produced by NBC (D). P claimed that the show was dishonest because selected contestants had been given the answers to their questions in advance. As a result of his innocent participation in the show P's reputation was injured and he was deprived of scholastic fellowships for which he had applied. P sued D and D moved to dismiss; P alleged no tort. The court found that D's tortious conduct was actionable under a theory of general tort liability.
