Facts
Sauter (D) stabbed Lines during an altercation. Lines was taken to the hospital. There the surgeon negligently failed to discover a puncture of Lines' aorta, which led to Lines' death from internal bleeding. D was convicted of voluntary manslaughter. He appealed; the surgeon's malpractice was a superseding cause of Lines' death.
