Facts

McBride and Bird were arrested for attempting to extort $15 million from Gulf Oil in order to avoid planted bombs from going off. McBride struck a deal with the Assistant Attorney General that if McBride told him everything that was necessary to stop the bombs from exploding, there would be no prosecution of Bird. McBride confessed after the attorney general agreed. The United States then prosecuted Bird anyway.
