Bridges v. California

314 U.S. 252 (1941)

Facts

Bridges (D) was the leader of a labor union involved in litigation against another union. A judge had ruled against D's union, and D sent a letter to the Secretary of Labor calling the decision 'outrageous' and threatening a strike. At about the same time, the Times-Mirror Co. (D) published an editorial encouraging a judge to sentence two convicted union workers to prison. Both were cited for contempt of court. Both appealed.
