Facts
Respondents, Cuban refugees, were denied Medicare benefits based on a provision in the Social Security Act that premised benefit eligibility on application of legal permanent residency and at least five years of United States residency preceding the effective date of the insurance. The District Court invalidated statute. The U.S. Supreme Court reversed.
