Nature Of The Case

This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.

Facts

W and H were married for 22 years and are both 41 years old. They have children aged 17 and 19. Both are high school graduates. The parties bought the Mills Building Supply in 1984, and that has been their primary source of income since then as both parties worked in the business and shared responsibilities related to the business. In 1990, the parties separated and by 1993 H filed for a dissolution of the marriage. The trial court distributed the assets and gave H the business, the residence, land and various items of personal property and retirement accounts. W got real property, a rental house, $24,000 in cash, an interest in various retirement accounts, and a judgment of $180,833. W was also awarded $1,500 per month in spousal support for 48 months. H was also ordered to pay $700 per month in child support. W appealed.
