Nature Of The Case
This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.
Facts
The trade union (D) wanted to coerce a firm of builders to comply with their demands. Temperton (P) refused to stop supplying building materials to another firm. D then induced persons under contract with P to break their contracts and not to enter into further contracts. P sued for harm from both the broken contracts and the loss of prospective business. D claimed that inducing others not to enter into a contract with P was not an actionable tort. P was awarded damages. D appealed.
