United States v. Andrews
754 F.Supp. 1161 (1990)
Nature Of The Case
This section contains the nature of the case and procedural background.
Facts
A 305-page, 175-count indictment named 38 defendants of whom 37 were members or associates of the El Rukns, an infamous Chicago street gang. The indictment detailed over 250 separate criminal acts committed from 1966-1989. The government contends that these otherwise unconnected criminal events were allegedly committed to attain power, control, and wealth for the street gang. Several defendants filed motions to sever the indictment under Rule 8(b) or in the alternative Rule 14. The court ruled on these motions.
