Facts

Mahecha-Onofre (D) was arrested at the airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. DEA agents found cocaine chemically bonded into the structure of his suitcases. D was charged with violating federal narcotics laws. At trial, the suitcases were introduced into evidence. D was convicted. He appealed, claiming that the suitcases were not admissible because they had not been authenticated.
