Lands which were given for the erection and upkeep of churches and cathedrals.
It was the custom, says Cowell, for almost every one to give by will more or less to the fabric of the cathedral or pariah church where he lived. These lands so given were called fabric lands, because given ad fabricam ecclesia reparandam (for repairing the fabric of the church). Called by the Saxons timber-lands.
