Latin. n. Shop, stall, wooden hut or booth, inn, tavern. A wine shop. A shop, as being enclosed with boards (quod tabulis claitditur). Any building fit for habitation (omne utile ad habitandum aedificium).
In Old English Law. A drinking house; a tavern. Taverns and wakes (tabernae vigiliaeque) are spoken of as places of nocturnal resort by servants, to the neglect of their duties.
